Enable ICQ File Transfer Through NAT

When you connect to the Internet through a NAT connection you’ll discover that you will no longer be able to transfer files to and from your ICQ program. This is because your NAT connection is actually acting as a kind of firewall, and we must tell ICQ that it is working behind a firewalled connection.
Remember that 2 problems still exist with this sort of connection:

  • It is only possible in ICQ v.2002a.
  • Although you will be able to receive files, you will not be able to transfer files to other users that are behind firewalls.

Follow the screenshots to configure your ICQ client:

  1. Go to the Preferences of your ICQ client:

  1. Click Connections.
  2. Click the Server tab.
  3. Select the Using Firewall radio box. Make sure you’re selecting the Not Using Proxy radio box.
