This may sound like an obvious question but I'm a little unclear about Server licensing.

I want to install a server running Server 2008R2 in an office with 10 client PCs. Do I need to buy additional CALs (on top of the server license) to add all 10 PCs to the domain?

Can someone advise on the following. if you have Forest with multiple domains, it's not possible to break one of these domain out onto it's own forest, so ending up with a separate forest with that domain held within. As far as I'm aware this is not possible for several reasons. one big problem comes to mind is SCHEMA MASTER and DOMAIN NAMING MASTER.

Am I right here, the above would be accomplished using ADMT

I have a federation trust between two Exchange 2010 SP2 organisations. Everything works fine except when i want to change the level between two federated persons.

If i change the level via Outlook then a message appears (printscreen):
- the modivied permission cannot be saved (and)
- and error occured when Setting schedule permissions

If i try the same via Outlook WebApp....it works. I tried it with Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013..it is the same Problem.

any hints?

I wonder if anyone else has seen the following scenario?

We look after a company who run a SBS 2003 server. They needed to change from a .com email address to .co.uk
So, using the guides here at Petri, I added the Domain to the Exchange, making the new .co.uk the default.

The .com emails arrived by POP3 connectors, but for the .co.uk we use SMTP and the MX record points to their router.

All is seemingly working well, people get their new emails from this set up, except for the following:
They have some hosted websites that have contact forms, to stop 'advertising' the email addresses and being spammed etc.
So, you fill in your name and email address and comments/message and submit.
However, these email never arrive, they can be found by going to the webmail of the Domain host, but they never leave there.
I don't know why, or how to troubleshoot this.
Can anyone help?

I've been struggling with this one for a while and could do with some help. I have enabled auto forwarding in Exchange 2010 and ran Get-RemoteDomain Default | fl which shows auto forwarding is enabled but it still doesn't work. I've tried it on two clients (running outlook 2007 and 2010) neither of which work. Are there any other settings or is there a work around? The problem being I have an email address that needs swapping from one user to another. They used to do this themselves via the auto forward rule but now I have to log in to the server and swap the address over every time and it's getting to be a problem.

I have a client computer that was disconnected from the domain from the Domain Controller. The computer's account was reset. Easy enough to go into the computer using a local account and disjoin/rejoin to the domain, however it seems no-one remembers the password to the local account.

The data that is stored on the local machine's hard drive is important so we are trying to recover it. I've tried to go into Manage My Computer on the Domain Controller (using an administrator login of course) and Connect to another computer, but that just gives me a security error. I can ping the client, so I know its being seen. This obviously means that I cannot log in with a domain admin account due to it not being on the domain.

Any thoughts on how I can either 1) Unlock the local user account, or 2) Disjoin/rejoin it to the network so I can log in with a domain admin account, or 3) Somehow bypass the login part using some hacker whatever to retrieve the data. I can re-image the machine later if it breaks or whatever. I just reeeally want that data.

My scenario is we have an isolated network that has it's own Exchange 2007 running on Server 2003. I have set up an SMTP relay on a machine that has Internet connectivity (also server 2003). I want to forward emails out to the Internet if they are not for the local internal domain. Note i'm only concerned about sending emails out to the Inernet, not receiving from the Internet.

I have set up an MX record for the "Internet facing" SMTP relay and gave it a
lower priority. So I assume if the Exchange server can't send the message it goes to the next MX server. I know DNS is critical and I am not sure if the Exchange server needs to resolve the external email as well as the SMTP relay server (neeeding to resolve) or only the SMTP relay server needs to resolve the external address.

- How do I set this up in Exchange? I assume the Exchange server relays to my SMTP relay server.
- I already have an SMTP receive connector, do I need to add another one?
- Property page per property page what do I configure on Exchange and the Server 2003 SMTP?

I have not set up domains in the SMTP relay as from what I see that's for receiving email and relaying out ? Not actually understanding these dialogs, what they mean. From what I read if I put a microsoft.com domain in there I will relay that through, which I don't want. What gets me is terminology, "Remote Domain".

I need a bit of help using dsquery and dsget to extract all users in a specific distribution group.

Here is the location of the distribtution group in AD.
Test.com>Distribution Groups>Replicated>IT Team

So the distribution group is called IT Team and what I want to be able to do is export to a text file the names of all users who belong to this group.

I have tried many variations such as:
dsquery group "ou=replicated, ou=distribution groups, dc=test, dc=com" | dsget -members >users.txt

But nothing seems to work.

Would really appreciate some help on this and it would also help me understand these two commands better perhaps.
