Please open your firewall to the following IP address range on all ports: 64.78.22.112/29. You must establish a direct NAT rule that routes us to the exchange server from the firewall
Our exchange server is on 192.168.1.10
Can anyone offer the steps I need to take - eternally grateful if you can. I've had a good look but I'm concerned if I get it wrong i'll open the entire network to the world.

Hello,

I'm trying to diagnose an issue with a broadband satellite connection. It's a Tooway setup and has it's own modem which allows 1 device to be connected, which can be a computer or more usually a router.
Everything works fine, and in fact I've set up a few of these over the last year or so as there is no local installer in our area.

Recently I've hit an issue on one installation, the computers connected to the router report 'Limited Access' on the wireless connection. This is seen on both Windows 8 and MAC OSX Lion. On Windows there is a yellow exclamation on the system tray icon and on Mac the wireless icon top right has an exclamation mark. The odd thing is that if you open a browser you can browse the internet as normal, email works fine through Outlook or Mac mail, infact the connection is not limited, it's just falsely reported as such by the OS.
I'm trying to find out what the cause is, I've not seen this before on any systems, I've only seen this message when there is a good connection to the router on the LAN but the router itself is not connected on WAN port, in which case the message would be correct.
In order to diagnose I want to find out what mechanism either OS uses to determine if there is or isn't a routed connection. How does the OS know (or think it knows) there is a Limitied connection? Is there some ping built in to the networking component which under good conditions returns a positive, or in cases where there is no connection beyong the router, a negative, or in this case a seemingly 'false negative' that may be due to the latency on the satellite connection or some other factor specific to this type of connection as opposed to a regular DSL connection over a phone line.

Long winded question I know but I wanted to make it clear that I'm not asking why am I getting a 'Limited Connection' message, and avoid potential answers telling me it's because I have a good connection to my router but the router itself is not connected and that I should release and renew my ipconfig etc etc: there are far too many of those on Google already. What I want to know is what mechanism does the OS on both Windows and Mac use to determine if there is a connection or not and therefor what is it that is tested to determine the state of the connection? Further to that can this mechanism be manipulated?

Thank you

We have an ADSL line with a download speed of around 6.5Mb/s, with a static ip address.

I have been asked to look into adding a second internet connection as our current connection is sometimes unusable due to clients sending us large files via email etc.

So, I'm thinking of getting a Draytek Vigor 2830 Router which has 3 WAN ports (2 cabled, 1 for a 3g USB dongle) and using the load balancing and QoS features. I have zero experience of using these, so...

Load balancing, does this allow a user to download files using both connections simultaneously? How effective are the QoS options?

Users currently use OWA and remote access to work from home. Will having two ip external ip address affect this in any way?

Any other pitfalls that I haven't forseen?

Were also looking at Shareband, but they want £20 per line per month. Is this just paying out for something that can be achieved internally?

Thanks

Been a long time since I didn't work with linking 2 subnet (since school xD) and I need some help. We have a Class A IP, 10.1.10.* and it is almost full ( Computers, laptop, Printer, wireless device etc..). I was thinking about setting up a new IP range, like 10.1.11.* (Any this will be usefull has we have an IPSec with Toronto company that will soon need to switch the domain name to the same we have) , the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

I need those 2 different ranges to be able to communicate, accessing server, etc..

DHCP is on a Windows 2003 server, 2 DNS 2003, we have 3 switch (2x Dell PC 2848, 1 Dlink DES-1226G) and 1 firewall (Cyberoam CR50ing).

Any help is appreciate, this is really far in my mind :D

Problem with accessing the FQDN of a server internally

I have posted this in networking as I think its more a router issue than a server issue.

Basically I get this problem on certain networks, but not all networks, whereby when I try and access the public FQDN, for example, mail.domain.com, that resolves to 123.123.123.123, from inside the local network, it does not work - if I ping it inside the network, it returns results for 123.123.123.123, but If I try and access outlook web access for example, it will throw up a page cannot be displayed error.

It seems like the local network or the server is still resolving the name externally, but then the router will not allow the traffic destined for any particular port out, and then back in to the network so it blocks the connection.

Some systems, this does not happen - FQDN can be used internally and externally.

But on the systems where it does not work, I end up having to add a manual DNS entry on the server that resolves mail.domain.com to the local IP of the server (192.168.1.1 for example) and then normally I need to add an entry for the public website, ie www.domain.com > 234.456.567.67 or whatever.

Im not sure if its something Im missing, or if there is a reason this is happening.

It probably only happens on 5 out of around 40 networks that I manage.

so i have this skool i maintain. they are somewhat behind as far as technology is concerned, so im trying to get connectivity across their campus.

they pretty much have a campus made out of quad-wide trailers. the wiring was installed when the place was set up and runs in conduits under the sidewalks and such. thing is, there was some kinda fire and all the runs to this one building got fried.

i find this out after i set up a second lab and dropped in a switch... no link. better yet, i go to test the line and it has AC voltage running across it. i didnt need a meter, my hand clamped down on it pretty good...

so what im proposing is that i dont run anymore CAT. i would have to replace 20 CAT runs to get the building wired again...

im thinking im going to run a piece of fiber into each building and put a gbic or fiber convertor. so how do i determine how and what type of fiber to run? i have worked with fiber, but usually in a pre-existing scenario. this place has no fiber at all...

each building has a run of 15 to 20 CAT 'home-run' lines. is a single strand enough to replace all that CAT? they arent really bandwidth heavy or anything, they just need access to the file server and web...

single mode? multi-mode? idk...

even with all the converters and fiber, i still think its cheaper than running 2000 feet of CAT.

any caveats, comments, suggestions, input that might be worthwhile during the planning process?

thanks guys,

If the Core switches support sFlow and the Edge switches do not, traffic routed through the core from the edge... Would this show up in the sFlow charts with the destination and source IP/Hostname even though its from another none sFlow switch? I know its trunk will show as source under interface type, but what about accountability?

I am hoping to implement sFlow on the core switches, and some edge switches for the servers, however don't want to replace the edge switches for the client machines and still want to be able to know sFlow data for these clients when accessing the Internet.

I understand traffic from one edge switch without sFlow to another edge switch without sFlow won't show up.

One more Observation we got it Our Server (IBM X3650) IP is i.e. 192.168.0.8 and we found some IP address 192.168.0.76 Whenever we restart the Server(192.168.0.8 )
the IP 192.168.0.76 goes down ! aftert the start of server(192.168.0.8 ) other IP 192.1680.76 gets Up for 15-20 Seconds and that gone down !

Hi All,

I need help or suggestion configuring better network for remote access from PC 1 to VM 1, VM 2, or VM 3 without login to Server Win 2008 as shown on diagram.

Current scenario PC 1 is able to remote desktop Server Win 2008 by computer name or IP address (192.168.0.1) through firewall (FW 1) and NATing mechanism in Network B. Please note that Server Win 2008 is hosting three Hyper-V machines VM 1, VM 2, and VM 3.

Is there a better way configuring Network B for PC 1 to remote desktop VM 1, VM 2, or VM 3 without login to Server Win 2008 and adding IP addresses of virtual machines to be mapped?

Thanks in advance any help and suggestion greatly appreciated.
