Hey All,

I am looking to replace the current file server in my system. I have very limited experience when it comes to picking/purchasing new hardware.

My company has about 40 nodes on the system.

The file server gets used very often. I am looking for something that can withstand a lot of processing and capacity.

We are a printing company that RIPs PDF and other formats to a format we can print on press. This process requires the file to be read from the file server, sent to the RIPPING server, ripped on the RIPPING server, and sent back to the file server in a much larger format. This is being done all day.

I am leaning towards HP, They seem to offer helpful assistance. Please advise.

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, maybe some recommendations.

Thank you
Jim

I have four hardware devices that are plugged in through a self powered USB hub. Currently the devices are assigned COM1 COM2 COM3 COM4 through device manager as hoped. However, when rebooting the PC or USB hub sometimes the assigned COM ports in device manager will switch and mix about in a random order.

I need these devices to always be recognized in a particular COM port so my software will account for this.

Does anyone know if there is a way to assign static COM ports on a USB self powered hub so that if the USB hub or PC is powered off or rebooted the same COM port will automatically be assigned back to the relevant hardware device?

I am using a Star Tech 4 Port USB USB2004EXT2 and Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and thanks for reading,

One year ago, I inherited several hardware components from our main office. I'd like to use them now, but I'd need a few help as I never worked with this kind of hardware. I used google to find information on how to proceed but I can't find something useful.

The hardware I'm talking about is one HP DL380 server and one MSA2000 array (fiber), The array has 10 TBs (SAS disks), and I'd like to use it as extra storage for our LAN (SBS with 25 clients).

Could anybody give me an idea on how to set this up?, what OS should I use in the server (the server has also fiber cards) can I use Windows?, I believe I can't have a second server in my Small Business Server 2008 network...

Is it difficult to build the MSA array?

Thank you very much in advance for you answers

I got an error that the following error: "Partition with bad blocks cannot be resized"

When I boot into the raid card manager, it shows all disk are online and no SMART errors. I've ran chkdsk, it took a long time and found a bunch of errors and I still get the same error message. I've ran chkdsk again and I don't get any more errors.
How can I find out which disk is causing the problem?
