I'm sure I've seen this before. We're running Exchange 2003

Sending an email to an external address that has the first and last name separated by an underscore is being rejected.

The NDR reporting that firstname-lastname is unknown, notice the hyphen replacing the underscore.

I've searched high and low and sure I've come across this issue way back

What if you delete your firstname-surename or whatever email address from Outlook's nicknames and type it in manually again?

There is nothing I am aware of in Exchange that will do this.
That means it is either.
a. User stupidity.
b. A third party tool is rewriting the address - AV, antispam etc.

Underscores in email addresses are very unusual now, I cannot remember the last time I saw one.

Have to say I cannot find anything in Exchange and I've tried the same address and it gets returned when sent, from a Yahoo account I receive no NDR (well at least not after several days).
