Default DHCP server never assisngs first 16 iPv4 addresses in a VLAN. Why?

I understand from an article of MS Technet (see: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...=ws.10%29.aspx), that a DHCP server never assigns the first 16 IP addresses in the iPv4 range in a VLAN, as they are reserved. The first two make sense to me (x.x.x.0 and x.x.x.1). And what about x.x.x.255?

What is the reason for keeping these reserved? Please advise.

This is specific to Virtual Server so I suspect there is no reason apart from MS wanting to keep some IPs free

Why microsoft create such reservations I don't know yet, there are 2 addresses reserved anyhow, and that is a) network address and b) broadcast address.
Secondly 1 address is used for a gateway device.

Basically there are per vlan 3 addresses used within each new VLAN.
