Default I did a migrate from 2000 sp4 to 2008, but !!

I did a migration from windows server 2000 sp4 to a windows server 2008 R2 , then I made the 2008 r2 server the FSMO holder for the five roles ,
Now both servers is a domain controllers ,all things goes very good, accept when I unplug the 2000 server it makes the logon too slow, I don't know why.
I thought if a domain controller goes down ,the other will do the job .
any ideas plz .

Sounds like you haven't installed and configured DNS.

Did you run dcpromo on the 2000 box to demote it? If it's still listed as a DC, that means your new DC is trying to replicate to it.

I didn't demote the 2000 DC ,however the 2008 DC is already replicated , I have all users ,groups and computers ,also DNS records replicated

Do you have any indications of problems from the event logs on the servers? Are both servers on the same subnet? Do you have DHCP running? If so which server is it on?

Can you describe your network topology - number of routers/gateways etc

Just casting for ideas.

[edit]
Plus, can you post an ipconfig /all from one of the clients and each of the DC's.
