Default Is it unusual for a PST Repair to take over 18 hours to complete?

18 hours and running into an Outlook PST file repair.
There has been no "Overall Scanning Progress" (90% complete) in last 13 of 18 hours.
The repair is working in "Collecting PST Objects" phase.
Windows "Task Manager" performance tab indicates 60%+- CPU usage consistently.

Repairing with "Stellar Phoenix Outlook PST Repair v 4.5".
Running Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3, Build 2600.
Repairing PST file from Outlook 2003, Version 11.0, build 8330.
PST file size = 1,045,500 kb.
A first file repair was attempted with the Microsoft system file "SCANPST", which failed. Subsequently began the current repair with "Stellar Phoenix".

How long do I wait this out before assuming the repair is failing or in a loop and push "STOP"?

Please understand I am a basic user, ignorant on computers; thank you for any guidance.

That does sound a long time. 18 hours already spent might as well leave it running over the weekend and go have a beer.
If you have bought a license for the software then you will probably be entitled to some support by the manufacturers.

In simple terms nope.

It may be trying to repair errors that cannot be repaired.

What was the error with SCANPST???
