Is this anything to do with virtualisation, or is it a hardware issue?

Do you mean a Dell PowerEdge 2950 which is a server?

You would need to destroy the LUN to reallocate the space.
Can you please tell us what your storage actually is as a PE2950 is a server and has no iSCSI capabilities. |

Hi ,
we have implement a freenas on this server , so you mean to say we need to remove the lun0 first then only we can create ? Also is it possible for a freenas to support 2 or more lun on storage. Thanks... |

I have no experience with freenas but with our EMC storage we would need to remove the LUNS from the raid group to re-jig them to the sizes we required.
No idea on the others. Probably the best place to start would be here http://www.freenas.org/ Documentation here http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Main_Page |

Yeah, but with NetApp you can resize it on the fly.
But with Freenas I think you'll need to destroy them and recreate them again.
