We have a situation where our client wants to drag and drop MS Office, PDF files etc within the notes section of his Outlook contacts and store them there.
Currently, they use MDaemon from Alt-N as their mail server with its buit-in ActiveSync. If a contact with embedded files is amended on the iPhone or iPad, the files are deleted due to MDaemon not supporting this feature of Outlook. Should they change to using Exchange 2010/Outlook/ActiveSync will this still be a problem? There seems to be very limited, if any, information available online regarding this feature of Exchange/Outlook. Does anyone have experience of using this facility on Exchange/ActiveSync without problems, or do you know where there is documentation online to help us? Any help would be appreciated. |

The client needs to be told that Outlook is not a CRM.
This is a CRM function, and neither is Outlook or Exchange a CRM. I have seen attachments in COntacts, but their behaviour is very erratic. Simon.

Thanks, what problems are you aware of when you refer to the feature as being erratic?

Attachments not working, disapearing etc.
The biggest issue is that they don't update. If you open the attachment from the contact then change it and save it, it does NOT update the copy in the contact. That is because what Outlook does is save the attachment to the temporary files location, and when you save it, all you do is save it back to the temporary location. You have to remove the attachment, then find your saved copy and reattach it. Simon.
