Hello!

I have some general questions about Certifications. My thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out.

I volunteered to get an MCP Certification for my employer, and also to futher my education; I'd like to keep going for MCSA or MCSE. I'm a little confused as to which exams would give me MCP status. I think Microsoft's site used to define this more clearly in the past, but I can't find it when looking recently.

Would 70-270 work? I've already read the MCSE Windows XP Professional Study Guide for exam 70-270 last year, but never got around to taking the test.

Is there anything in addition to that book that I'd need to study? I know my way around all Windows OS and where to find things, but I need to brush up on network stuff and Active Directory.

I'm confident I could pass it as long as it didn't go far from the study guide, but the guide did state that the exam could include topics from other exams. I don't want to fail the test simply because I started with 70-270 first.

I have till sometime in February before I have to take the tests, so I only have 1 to 2 months of study time.

BTW: I'm a software technican and provide support to our customers along with bug testing, hotfix implementation, and install our programs to Windows and Linux servers.

Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) Certification Requirements

Short answer: Yes, 70-270 would give you MCP.

Any Microsoft Exam will give you MCP
Specific combinations of exams will give you higher certifications e.g. MCSA, MCSE

With the new certifications (e.g. SQL Server 2005) you may get MCTS -- Technical Specialist
