Hello,

I have a mixed environment Exchange 5.5 and Exchange 2k3 with a Windows 2k3 Domain controller Server. All the mailboxes were successfully moved from Ex 5.5 and everyone's mail is currently working fine.

I am now trying to remove the old EX 5.5 Server from the environment - switch to native mode etc.

I started the process for removing Exchange 5.5
I verified all the folder replications and stopped all the Ex 5.5 services. I Started the Exchange System Manager (5.5) and attempted to connect to the ex2k3 mail server and it would not connect to it.

Error was DS_communications_problem -
now the EX2k3 Server is up and running fine, can be pinged from the NT / EX 5.5 Server and everything looks fine but I can not connect to the EX2k3 Server so I can delete the EX5.5 Server Object from exchange.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Yuval,

I had used this search prior to attempting to do the removal. I was using the microsoft articles as the basis of the process I was using. All of the steps indicated were followed but for some reason I can not connect to the Exchange 2003 server from within the exchange 5.5 system manager.

Exchange system manager loads but when I type in the name of the exchange 2003 sever i get the error message which basically says that it can not communicate with the Exchange 2003 server.

The exchange 2003 server is up and is hosting mail so I know it is not the information store etc and I can ping it. I just can not connect to it via system manager so I can delete the exchange 5.5 Server object.
