I have a question regarding the auto administrative shares in Windows XP Pro. If the simple files sharing model is enabled and the auto admin shares are not disabled (default install), they should not be accessible remotely over the network even if you have an administrator account on the remote computer. Is this correct ??

Hello cyphre,
I would say it is not correct. As long as administrave shares are enabled (you're right default behavior), local admin members will have access ... Hope this help |

Hello. Thank you for your answer. Then how can you explain this :
Tools -> Folder options -> View -> Use simple file sharing enabled! C:\>net use x: \\192.168.0.1\C$ 123456 /User:mruser System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. Tools -> Folder options -> View -> Use simple file sharing DISABLED! C:\>net use x: \\192.168.0.1\C$ 123456 /User:mruser The command completed successfully. Cheers. |
