Question Error creating exchange public folders in SBS 2003 R2

I am running SBS 2003 R2 SP2 with Exchange SP2 in an AD domain environment.

I log in as administrator and the Server Management window opens. I click on Distribution Groups and click on Add a Distribution Group. I go through the wizard and give it a name and put a check in the box for Create a public folder to archive e-mail messages sent to this group and the one to Enable this group to receive e-mail from outside the network. I click on finish and it proceeds to create the group but than it just hangs for a few minutes then gives me an error that says "exchange public folder could not be created" than asks if i want to keep the box.

This process worked when i first setup the server but has recently stopped functioning correctly.

The following is an exerpt from the add_distribution_group_wizard.log file when it worked and of the recent one that didn't.

The highlighted area below is not listed in the 2nd excerpt. It looks like it is stuck in a loop and can't finish properly. I'm assuming this is why it is not working correctly but have no idea how to fix it. Any and all help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've also noticed that i don't get any errors in the event viewer.

This worked...........

Default Re: Error creating exchange public folders in SBS 2003 R2

I happened upon your post because I have a similar issue in that the SendHTTPRequest string runs in an endless loop, while yours seemed to time out.

At any rate, I can explain why the "create public folder" fails, because that part is easy... you've changed your Exchange Server to run in "Native Mode (no pre-Exchange 2000 Servers)"

If this is the case, the wizard is expected to fail at that point because the SBS Default is to run in Mixed Mode. So, do not create a public folder during Add Distribution Group Wizard (i.e., do not check "Create a public folder to archive e-mail messages sent to this group").

When the wizard finishes you must manually create a public folder in Exchange and then mail enable the folder. Then, open the folder properties and click the "Member Of..." tab > Add and then enter the distribution group you just created.
