Default good site but

I have attained some good knowledge on this site as a 1st jobber (network administrator).
The site would be better with more users and thus quicker help if you need it.
A few more sections wouldn't be bad either, say hardware, isa server and a better scripting forum again this is probably down to user numbers but generally all good

Thanks for your suggestions. I too wish there more permanent users who would stay here to answer questions and add their knowledge to the growing database. Remember that the forums were started as a spin off from my main site at www.petri.co.il, and as such they are doing their job. Had the site been totally based on these forums, I'd be pissed by the low number or permanent users. However since my main site is the main issue, these forums are quite adequate for me now.

Anyway, I would like to hear your opinion on how to attract more users and have them stay, not just post one question and leave.

lol nice.

Such is the nature of the Internet. People want to search and find the answer for things immediately. If they can't find it they'll hit a forum, get a quick answer if possible and if not they'll come back until they get an answer and thats it.

I try to answer as many questions as possible. Whether or not I do is based on 4 things.

1. Do I have time? (I haven't had much lately)
2. Can I answer it quickly i.e. off the top of my head?
3. Is the question worthly of answering? RTFM! or at least attempt to find out! (Crap posts/questions abound!)
4. If I don't know now, can I find out quickly?

How to keep people coming back...

The short answer - You can't. Where's the incentive?

I was actually drawn into the forum because I was seeking clarification from an article on your main page. Somehow I've been trapped in here ever since.

agree, almost everything.. only point 3 isn't my thing.... i will always answer the question how "stupid" it will be. in my oppinion there are no stupid questions...

to keep the users here is an endless discussion, im afraid...

Well I've only recently began observing #3 as I have less time. I find that if a question has merit I'll answer. In the past I have attempted to answer any question that went unanswered regardless of content.

Well i want to see this forum flourish. I've tried where i can to add my help, even if it doesn't always give the answer it may point the person in the right direction. This way people get an answer and then when they need another quick response they'll come back and eventaully may stay.... well maybe!!!
