Ive just updated my Exchange 2003 box to SP2. During the process, an item failed and was marked with a red crossed Messaging and collaboration services failed to update. All the items in the list updated without any problems. Prior to the upgrade, I think the Exchange 2003 didnt have a service pack.

All the services have come back up and the server appears to be working has normal. Im able to login to my email account via owa and im able to log into an Outlook Client on the LAN. I get no error messages when sending any emails, they just dont get appear to be arriving at there destination.

Im running Sophos Pure Message on top of the exchange 2003 installation. That appears to be processing messages (viewing status tab on the Mail Icon).

The Server is WIndows 2003 with Service Pack 2.

When I do an about on the exchange 2003 system manager, i get the following build information.
Version 6.5.7638.1.

Hope you guys can help. My thoughts right now is to apply service pack 1 and then reapply service pack 2. I will await your response prior to doing so.

I would start by removing the AV software plus any antispam software that is installed. Then reapply SP2 and any post SP2 updates from Microsoft Update. I wouldn't try and install SP1.

pausing the software should help as well
i had simular issue with one of our clinet and pausing /remoeving the antivirus has resloved the issue as Sembee sad.

please let us know about what happened .

Sorry for the late response, I was up until 2am fixing this one. Your suggestions were spot on, I removed the spam filter and paused the antivirus and all worked after that.
