Server running as a virtual machine (bridged network), which is also a domain controller is showing this error when trying to logon using the domain admin, however, it logons on using the local administrator.

Load up Services.msc and check that the Netlogon (lsass.exe) service is running. If not there there is a problem with the DC.
a) Check that the Sysvol and Netlogon folders are shared using Net View command. b) Make sure DNS service is running ok. c) Check Directory Services, DNS and FRS event logs. |

Does the DC hold any FSMO roles? Are there any more DCs in the domain>

No, there are no other DCs in the domain. Not sure about FSMO, however, it is the default installation.

What DNS server is the DC pointing to? Does it have the SRV records for the DC? You could run a DCDIAG.

I don't think there are any SRV records because I haven't updated any, does the following tell you anything? C:\Users\Administrator.SERV01>dcdiag Directory Server Diagnosis Performing initial setup: Trying to find home server... ***Error: serv01 is not a Directory Server. Must specify /s:<Directory Server> or /n:<Naming Context> or nothing to use the local machine. ERROR: Could not find home server. Last edited by jon80; 11th March 2009 at 21:43.. |
