I work in IT Support and one of the clients in one of the departments is getting a blue screen upon loading up Windows XP Pro SP1. The error message contains: Quote:

Have you tried booting in Safe Mode and see if it hangs on anything during boot?

Yes, it gets so far and restarts itself and/or gives the above error message.
Edit: I've also tried 'last known good configuration', the same thing happens. |

Have you actually checked that the DLL exists on the machine, also try and overwrite the DLL (backup first) with one from a working machine.
Put the disk in another PC or if not; create a boot disk and use NTFSdos to view the file. (If you running NTFS and not FAT32 obviously). If that doesn't work you probably have a corrupt software hive and would need to repair windows (which will repair it but all software will need reloading). topper

Hi topper,
I have already replaced the winsrv.dll and still the same old stuff. Also, I have attempted to repair the windows installation but it keeps saying it cannot delete a selected file, do you wish to retry or skip. There were many of these which I skipped. After 20 or 30 of these it just said that windows could not carry on installing windows. Possibly worth rebuilding it altogether? Thanks, Andy |
