Hi Everyone,

Am trying to migrate from 2003 server to 2008 server. My current set up is active directory having one dc, Dc1 running windows 2003. I have installed windows 2008 on different machine Dc2 and now am trying to promote this server as DC. But am prompted with some error

I had the same issue when promoting a 2003 DC. Reinstalled many times and found the same. At last replaced the hardware (server) and tried to dcpromo which resolved the issue. It will not be the same case for your issue.

What are the specs of the machine???

One asks for you to increase memory.

Hi,
DC1(old Dc ) is pretty old with pentinum 3, 512MB ram.
DC2(going to be DC) is the one of the best configuration with more than enough resources.

On Dc1, I even tried stopping all the unwanted services (not required for migration) and increasing the PF from 512MB to 1GB. Still getting the same error.

Further to this I even tried to replicate from backup media. For this first DC1 system state backup was taken then restored Active Directory to different folder using advanced restore method. Then this folder was moved to Dc2. After this the dcpromo was again started and the restoration media was set to this folder. Still the same error comes with "Active directory database replication Failed".

Please let me know your suggestions on this.

R u sure, that the existing DC's Domain and Forest functional level is in 2003 functional level.
