Is SQL clustering possible with 2 SAN clusters? Can you setup a cluster over a WAN to achieve a DR solution?

AFAIK clustering is 2 hosts connected to 1 SAN -- not 2 SANs

There is log shipping which give a copy dB at another site for DR purposes

does log shipping give you automatic failover? i didnt think it did. How are people creating automatic failover solutions for DR when equipment is in tow separate locations?

No, I don't think so either...
I checked MS and SQL 2008 does offer geographical clustering:

Now thats interesting. Although Windows/SQL support Geographically Dispersed Failover Clustering it will not span different subnets. You need to cluster in the same LAN or VLAN. This solution also requires SAN replication, which is fine, but the subnet thing kills me, what company will have a DR site on the same subnet.

Ours does, dark fiber between the sites. If our primary datacenter goes boom, we just have to flip the cluster HBAs at the DR site to a replicated secondary SAN and were back up and running.

That said, a new feature of Windows Server 2008 Failover Clustering is support for cluster nodes on different subnets.
