Default SBS Exchange Slow with Clients

Have an SBS 2008 server and emails that are received show up faster on the mobile device than in outlook. It seems to have a 10 min delay before showing up in outlook. What up with that? Any suggestions on this? Google didnt seem to pull to much up on this.

The outlook is setup manually from the sbs server but i do believe cache mode is enabled. I know the phones are on a push and pull mainly an Iphone configuration to get give you a jist on the setup. Very basic out of the box.

I would start by checking general connectivity on the stations since it seems that Outlook is polling the server slowly. Try your DNS settings for starters. Are all the stations pointing to the SBS and ONLY the SBS?

Yes the clients are only using the sbs as the dns. Ping test show 1. Everything seems to pull up ok but just emails on the internal clients take 10 minutes to get.

Is the mail Pop3 or SMTP?

It sounds like its pop3 and you have the iphones set to see the pop3 mailbox, and the exchange server is connecting and downloading messages every 10 mins.

Easiest way to see this, do all external emails come in 10 mins part?

What does OWA show, does it match the iphones or the outlook clients?

OWA should always should whats on the exchange server (as its generated directly on the server), Outlook will show you what outlook has on the local computer (if Exchange Chached mode is enabled) and the iphone will show ether the Pop3 mailbox (if there is one) or the Exchange Mailbox (if connected to exchange).

Everything is done by smtp and the iphone are doing the push pull active sync. Cache mode is enabled on every outlook. If i watch owa on a given account to receive an email then immediately go to outlook it takes for ever for it to show. Even the send/recieve doesnt ever reflect the new email for a bit. The iphone will show up as fast as the owa but not the outlook.

Zero errors in event logs in the server and the computer also. Everything else seems snappy but outlook just delays on receiving the emails.

It just an odd issue.

Is Outlook Anywhere enabled in the clients? If so, disable it and Try, does it help. If Not, enable it and try, does it help?

Could be that the clients are trying to access the servers external address?

You say you set outlook up manully, Do you mean you go to each machine and click next on the wizard, or do you actuly manully input all the settings, tell it the exchange servers IP/Name? If you do the 2nd, let it do the automated install, and if so, does it work?

Also, as the problem is inside your network (Exchange recieves the email, the delay is between the Exchange Database and getting it too the users mailbox) does the Exchange Tracking tools show anything of use?

Also, are ALL email delayed, or just external?
Can you Send a email to yourself, Whats the Delivery time?
Can you Send a email to a co-worker in the same OU, Whats the Dilivery Time?
Can you send a Email from a public mail host (hotmail/gmail) whats the delivery time?

Sorry for so meny questions, but this is a odd one and working out exactuly where the problem is will allow us to resolve it.

Wofen
