Hi,
last night we did a offline defragmentation of our SBS2003 priv1.edb and stm database without any problem, and we reduced our physical database space with about 30GB. The public store was stil small, so we didn't do that one. After we mounted the priv1 store again we noticed better performance due to the defragmented database. A few hours later we wanted to decrease a certain private user box size which had subfolders with archived emails in his inbox structure. so we moved the folders to the (at user/oulokk client level) to a public folder location. After the move was finished (1 folder with 12 subfolder with content), we looked at the new location and saw that only one subfolder was filled and all the others were empty... We still have the old priv1edb and priv1.stm files. How can we retrieve this specific mailbox content from the old mailbox store files? thx! |

Moving to the Exchange Forum since you may get a better response there.
It would have been wise to make a backup before and AFTER your defrag. If this has been done then you could restore the After defrag backup and the moved files and folders should be back in the Private Store. I am going to guess that EXMERGE will help but since I haven't used it for about 5 years I am going to have to provide you with a link or two. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=2743 http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/...r-mailbox.html If I am wrong, Sembee will leap out of my monitor, box my ears for typing crap and then put you on the right road.

Hi,
Read a lot about the tools today and how they work. Eventually I need Exmerge to get the data out of the old edb/stm file. The things is, in SBS2003 I can only use one mailbox store. If I could open a second store, I could exmerge the mails from that one mailbox to a pst file and read this in the current used store. I also looked into the use of the Recovery Storage Group, but I thing this is going to influence my current (running fine) store. So the question is: Is the a way on the SBS2003 server to open the old priv1.edb / stm files, exmerge data out ito a pst. Without interfering with the current up and running priv1.edb/stm files. Maybe third party tools (edb to pst) are my only solution? thx! |

Whenever i've had to do one i copy the relevant files that i need to the server and store them in a different location and mount those files. It has been a very long time though since i've done it. Have you followed this http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/..._recovery.html and this http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/...r-mailbox.html Sorry i don't have a spare database available for testing. |

An RSG is what you need to use.
It will not cause a problem with your live database, because an RSG is designed for recovery, hence its name. Microsoft instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=824126 Third party: http://hellomate.typepad.com/exchang...covery_st.html There are more instructions on Technet as well. Simon.
