For those who are pursuing their CCNA certification, Cisco now offers a "CCNA Prep Center".

The Prep Center is free and offers practice questions for the CCNA, Cisco router lab simulations, tips, discussion forums, videotaped CCNA instruction, and advice.

I do see that some of these things offered are really links to other providers who will give you a demo, then try to sell you something. However, there is really some decent original content at the Prep center to aid in the CCNA.

One of my favorites are the CCNA games. They have the "CCNA challenge" where you have to configure a router in the shortest time possible. There is a binary game and a slingshot game. The binary game can even be download to your PocketPC PDA. All of these games help you prep for the CCNA in some way.

While the CCNA Prep center is pretty cool, it is just one resource.

Thanks for this link. While I have not started to study for any Cisco certs, I have several students who are doing self-study. This site provides a wealth of information for them.

Hi David, do you have any hints for preparing for classroom quizzes in a CCNA 2 course (community college)? The questions on the chapter tests do not seem to be at all related to the material in the chapter in the book.

Hello David,

I will soon be testing to get my CCNA. I know that IP addressing will be a BIG part of the exam, and I am quite good at IP addressing and subnetting now, but I wonder what your thoughts were on other things that I should perhaps focus on more than others. What specific tracks from Intro and Interconnecting do you think should be looked at more closely than others, if any? Thanks!

I hope you got your questions answered on your DHCP/NAT post. Let me know if you did not or if you have something else.
As for the CCNA exam, it is great that you have IP addressing and subnetting down. That is always the hardest part of the exam for most test-takers, in my opinion. I would know the routing protocols and how to do the basic configurations on the routers that they cover in ICND. I know that the new test has some hands-on exercises where you have to know the router commands and enter them. I recommend the Wendell Odom Cisco press CCNA books. They are great.

I haven't studied that Cisco academy stuff, if that is what you are talking about, sorry. You are welcome to post some of the questions you are having trouble answering and I would be glad to given them a shot.

Thanks for the side.. I'm planning to take up CCNA by self-study. I'm new to this technology neither for this Certificate. I'm confused with Exam code 640-821 and 640-801. May I know what is the best book to understand Cisco networking and best book for exam guide?

Greate Question.

There are two ways to achieve your CCNA certification.

OPTION 1
PASS 1 LONG EXAM:
640-801 CCNA Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO)

OPTION 2
PASS 2 SMALLER EXAMS:
640-821 INTRO Introduction to Cisco Networking Technologies (INTRO)
640-811 ICND Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices (ICND)

With the exams being the same cost, it makes better financial sense to take just the 1 test.
