Description

Do you need to hide drive 'X:' and drive 'G:' from your client computer by group policy?

This utility would quickly and easily add to your ADM file more drives options for the 'Hide these specified drives' and 'Prevent access to drives' policies.

Just run the utility, specify the required drives and save the new ADM file. Next, Add the newly created ADM file to your policy in the Group Policy MMC and specify the desired options.

You need to extract the tool/script found in the downloaded file by using WinZip or similar.

Detailed Instructions

  1. Place GPDriveOptions.exe in your system path folders.
  2. Run GPDriveOptions.exe
  3. Specify the drives you would like to hide/disable.
  4. Click Make ADM.

After making the new ADM file you will now need to import it for use in your AD GPOs.

  1. Open the Group Policy editor to the desired GPO.

Note: You do NOT need to be sitting at the DC in order to do that, you could open the GPO from a Windows XP Pro machine, as long as you have the Administrative Tools package (Adminpak.msi) installed. Read Administer Windows 2000/2003 Domain from Windows XP for more info.

  1. Expand User Configuration.
  2. Right-click Administrative Templates and choose Add Remove Templates.

  1. Remove all items found in the Add Remove screen.

  1. Click Add and in the Policy Template browsing window select System_GPDO.adm.

  1. Notice that the new ADM file is listed. Click Close.

  1. Expand Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer.
  2. In the right pane, double-click on Hide These Specified Drives on My Computer, or on Prevent Access to Drives from My Computer.
  3. In the Windows that will open click on Enabled.
  4. In the drop-down list select the drive you wish to hide or prevent access.
