How can I quickly change the default logon screen saver in XP?

This small utility will allow you to change the Screen Saver that is displayed when the Welcome Screen is displayed, and no user is currently logged on.

The %systemroot%\System32 folder will be scanned for SCR files for you to choose from.

You must have Administrator level privileges to use this utility.

Download this EXE file (zipped, 10kb) and run it.

This script was written by Doug Knox.

 

To manually change the logon screen saver you need to do the following:

  1. Run "Regedit.exe". Navigate to

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop

and change the following values:

SCRNSAVE.EXE - change from logon.scr to any other screen saver that has the .SCR extension and is located in the %systemroot%\System32 folder.
