In Windows XP, how can I revert to the good old search window that I used in Windows 2000?

Know What's on Your Network with Flow-Based Traffic Analysis

SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) monitors network traffic by capturing flow data from network devices, including Cisco® NetFlow v5 or v9, Juniper® J-Flow, IPFIX, sFlow®, and Huawei NetStream™.

Find the bandwidth hogs by using SolarWinds NTA to identify which users, applications and protocols are consuming the most bandwidth and the IP addresses of the top talkers. Download a full-functional, 30-day trial and in less than an hour, you can fire up network bandwidth monitoring and start getting a comprehensive view of your network traffic and the location of bottlenecks.

Windows XP has a sick and ugly search window which not only slows down your system but also personally makes me sick (not to mention that sorry-looking excuse of a dog they have there...)

To go back to the good old Windows 2000-style search window do the following:

  1. Download the Microsoft Powertoys for Windows XP. All you need for this tip is Tweak UI which gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more. You can also get it from HERE, or get the Win9X version HERE).

  2. Install TweakUI.

  3. Run TweakUI.

  4. Go to the Explorer sub-menu. In the details pane find "Use Classic Search in Explorer" and select it.

  1. Click Apply then Ok.

Press ÿ   +F to open the Search dialog box and see for yourself.
