Overview
Microsoft has recently released the Beta version of System Center Service Manager 2012. In this series we’re focusing on all of the installation and configuration steps you’ll need to go through to successfully get your Service Manager 2012 up and running. In previous parts in this series we covered:
- Part 1: What SCSM 2012 has to offer and the system requirements you’ll need before you begin the installation
- Part 2: The complete installation walk-through of the Service Management Server installation
- Part 3: How to install and configure the Data Warehouse Server
In today’s Part 4 of the series we’ll focus on configuring the System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, which is a fairly simple process. In the upcoming parts of the series we’ll cover:

- Part 6: Self-Service Portal Installation

OpManager through over 500 built-in monitors, event log rules, SNMP traps and remote troubleshooting tools, gives admins a tight grip over Windows server performance, including even MS Exchange, SQL and Active Directory.
Configuring System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3
One of the major benefits when using System Center Service Manager, is also making use of System Center Configuration Manager. This allows for “feeding” Service Manager with important data from Configuration Manager, into the CMDB, which in turn simplifies the management of objects and data into the Service Desk application.
Step 1: From the Service Manager console, select Create Connectors wizard and choose Create a Configuration Manager Connector.

Step 3: Enter a Name and Description for this connector. In our scenario we’ve made it simple, the name is SCCM2012 Connector and the description simply states Pulls information from SCCM2012.

Step 4: Select the System Center Configuration Manager 2012 Connector Configuration Management Pack from the dropdown and click Next to continue.

Step 5: Next, enter all of the required information; by default, this will be the service account that is used during the setup of the System Center Configuration Manager installation.

Step 6: Enter the Database Server name and, Database Name, Test Connection and click Next to continue (Figure 6). You can also click on Test Connection to see if your connection to the server was successful (Figure 7).

Step 7: Select the SCCM collections from which you want to synchronize data into the Service Manager’s CMDB. In our scenario, we select all collections and click Next to continue.

Step 8: Select a schedule for synchronization; in our scenario we’ll choose every day at 6 AM.

Conclusion
Now that your System Center Configuration Manager is connected to your System Manager it will feed important data into your CMDB simplifying the management of objects and data in your Service Desk application.
